The Journey of Novfeed: From Vision to Reality

The Story Behind Novfeed

Novfeed Story

The Spark of Innovation

Novfeed was established in 2020 by a group of passionate entrepreneurs, born from the intersection of a microbiologist's expertise, an environmental economist's vision, and an aquaculture enthusiast's drive. They recognized a unique chance to tackle two major challenges at once: the escalating problem of organic waste disposal and the rising need for sustainable fish feed and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer. What started as a small-scale research initiative has since evolved into a trailblazing company reshaping the way we view waste and nutrition in both aquaculture and agriculture.

The Problem We Aim to Solve

Tanzania faces a growing fish demand amid declining wild catch, creating a 480,000-ton annual supply gap and driving up prices, especially for low-income families. Fish farmers struggle with costly, poor-quality feed, leading to stunted fish growth and lower incomes. At the same time, millions of tons of organic waste are dumped in landfills, releasing harmful emissions, while demand for nutrient-rich, affordable fertilizer remains unmet. Novfeed addresses all three challenges by transforming organic waste into high-quality, protein-rich fish feed and organic fertilizer—offering a sustainable, circular solution that supports farmers, protects the environment, and improves food security.

The Science Behind Novfeed

Novfeed tackles three major challenges—organic waste pollution, the high cost of fish feed, and the scarcity of affordable, nutrient-rich fertilizer—through an innovative biotechnology solution. Using a proprietary microbial fermentation process, Novfeed transforms collected organic waste into a high-protein biomass by feeding it to carefully selected, non-GMO microbes in controlled bioreactors. This process produces a sustainable, cost-effective fish feed that meets the nutritional needs of farmed fish while significantly lowering production costs for farmers. Additionally, the residual byproduct is repurposed into high-quality organic fertilizer, enriching soils and supporting sustainable agriculture. By turning waste into value, Novfeed creates a circular system that supports food security, environmental health, and economic opportunity.
